Vijendra's POV
I dreamed of her again — Vasu, draped in a half-saree, braid swinging gently with jasmine tucked neatly, reaching for something on a high shelf. The curve of her waist caught my eye, delicate and mesmerizing. I felt drawn closer, my hand almost moving toward her... and then woke with a start.
She was still asleep, breathing evenly, hair tousled across the pillow. Sunlight slanted softly through the curtains, painting patterns across her face. The faint glimmer of her waist chain caught my eye, and I froze, heart racing. I shook my head, forcing myself to step away to the washroom to regain composure.
After a while, I emerged, careful not to disturb her. She was still asleep, lips curved in a cute, unconscious pout. Smiling softly, I moved to the balcony with my phone, catching up on work before the day began.
Two people, one bed, completely different worlds.
Vasu's POV
My dream was far away from the room — a bustling office, papers to organize, colleagues to meet. Completely unaware of Vijendra's gaze beside me, I floated in my own world.
When I finally woke, stretching and yawning, reality hit — this was not my bedroom. Panic fluttered in my chest. "I hope I'm not late," I muttered, rushing to the washroom.
Fifteen minutes later, saree adjusted, hair pinned, small flower tucked in, I glanced at myself in the mirror. Something felt missing. Taking a deep breath, I reached for the vermillion box — and froze. A soft cough from behind made my heart skip.
Startled, I whipped around, trying to hide the flush creeping up my cheeks. I rolled my eyes, attempting to maintain boldness, though a tiny flutter of nerves reminded me that I had woken later than Vijendra preferred.
Vijendra stepped closer, hands casually in his pockets, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Woke up late, didn't you? I was beginning to think my little tigress had turned into a sleepy kitten."
My jaw tightened. "And I was thinking my husband could mind his own business for once."
He chuckled softly, leaning just enough to lower his voice, a teasing glint in his eyes. "You know, the early riser rule is there for a reason... so I get to enjoy the sight of you first thing in the morning."
Her face burned hotter, and she shot him a glare sharp enough to cut glass. "First thing in the morning or not, I still get to choose how I look... and when I wake up."
Vijendra leaned back slightly, pretending to surrender, but the playful spark in his gaze betrayed him. "Ah, I see. So my rules are negotiable. Interesting... very interesting."
The Call from Outside
As Vasu was about to snap back another remark, a loud voice called from outside, banging lightly on the doorframe.
"Annaya... Vadina... Peddama is calling you both! Come down if you're ready!"
They paused mid-banters, exchanging a brief glance. Without another word, they decided it was time to head downstairs.
Vasu carefully descended the stairs, still new to handling a saree, the pleats slightly cumbersome in her hands. Suddenly, she slipped on a fold of fabric, her foot catching the edge of a step.
Before she could even gasp, Vijendra's hand wrapped firmly around her waist, steadying her. Her heart skipped a beat, warmth and surprise mixing together.
He moved a little closer, lowering his voice to a gentle whisper right in her ear. "Relax, babygirl. I got you."
I felt a shiver run down my spine — a mix of safety, embarrassment, and something else I wasn't quite ready to name. I adjusted my saree quickly, avoiding his gaze, but couldn't help the small, lingering flutter in my chest.
